Williams Medical Supplies (WMS) was established in 1986 by Robin Williams to supply general medical practitioners nationally with a wide range of medical products including vaccines and injectables.

Originally based in Northfleet, Kent, the Company transferred its main administrative, purchasing and central warehouse functions to Rhymney in 1992.

During 1998 WMS invested in further development of its office and warehouse facilities with the purchase of the Whitbread Centre in Rhymney. This move to new premises proved to be highly beneficial to the business, yet within just 6 years the company's growth meant that new, larger premises were needed again. In January 2004, the company fully utilised warehousing space on the Maerdy Industrial Estate in Rhymney. Following a major refurbishment, the new 76,000 sq ft warehouse opened in 2005.

2006 saw the unveiling of WMS's prestigious new Rhymney headquarters, Craiglas House on the site. The use of slate and steel in the new office building reflects the heritage of the area, whilst state of the art technology to keep the building at an even temperature shows the promise of the future.

Managing Director, Vince Kerr, and Commercial Director, Nigel Knight, acquired the company in a management buyout in May 2007. Both are committed to the company remaining in Rhymney, where it has been based since 1992. Their aim is to double the turnover within the next 5 years to more than £100m.

Vince Kerr said 'Our business is driven by a powerful customer service ethos, and we never stop looking at ways in which it can be improved', one of the pivotal reasons why the company is flourishing.

One relatively new area that is proving to be a success story is Testing & Calibration. The team of qualified technicians are based throughout the UK and are able to test and calibrate medical equipment in GP surgeries.

WMS are the UK's leading supplier to the Primary Care market of equipment, consumables, pharmaceuticals and family planning products. Most UK GP surgeries and thousands of medical professionals buy their medical supplies from WMS.
